1. Basics of Groundwater
Aquifers are the geological formations that can store water as well as allow the flow of significant amount of water through their pores under ordinary field conditions. Aquifers bounded by two impermeable formations on its top and bottom are called confined aquifer. The layer above the confined layer from the surface of earth which holds rainwater is called an unconfined aquifer. The latter has the inherent advantage over confined aquifers in that they serve as a sub-surface reservoir for large quantities of water due to their storage being linked to porosity unlike the elastic properties of the water and solid matrix, as in case of the confined aquifer.
Also, the vast surface area of the unconfined aquifer above the water table becomes available to receive surface applied recharges against relatively small openings/ exposures in confined aquifers nearer the ground surface or leaky portion therein. Confined aquifer thus gets recharged very slowly taking decades to even centuries to recharge.

2. Anatomy of a borewell
Borewells are drilled to tap water from the deeper confined aquifers. While drilling, a casing pipe is inserted to avoid caving in of the debris and weathered material into the borewell thereby clogging it. This casing pipe does not allow the water and material from the confined aquifer to enter into the borewell. The drilled borewell is fed with groundwater from the confined aquifers which is pumped out at much higher rate than its natural recharge rate. Hence borewells tend to provide lesser water with time and fail subsequently.

3. Preliminary Remote Study
Before visiting the site for BoreCharger implementation our trained HydroGeologists, groundwater experts, using remote sensing & satellite image analysis study the topography, geomorphology, surface water hydrology, etc. of the location of borewell.
Using secondary data analysis various aspects such as geology, recharge areas, discharge areas, etc. are studied using GIS

4. Scanning
Our trained HydroGeologists, groundwater experts, insert an underwater camera in the borewell and inspect various formations of aquifers and develop a litholog of the borewell.
This video inspection, ”Angiography” also is used to educate the customers about the occurrence of groundwater and brings about behavioural change in them from groundwater use perspective.

5. Bore Recharging

6. Water Quality Testing
Borewell water is tested for following parameters:
pH Hardness
TDS (ppm)
EC (Electrical Conductivity)
Colliform bacteria
